About the Blog

The W.E.B. Du Bois blog is the newest venture of the Afro-American Studies department, in an effort to encourage student and faculty scholarship while embracing the digitization of the academic world and the expansion of possibilities for production this enables. This online platform is thought to be a platform for students in the department as well as the Five-College community. The goal of the W.E.B. Du Bois blog is to engage with black thought, history, and culture.

The blog’s intent is also to make innovative and valuable research available to the world of academia but also to the broader public. The W.E.B Du bois Department of Afro-American Studies has a long history of engagement with communities wider than the enclosed world of academia. The blog in that sense is an extension of this commitment in that it aspires to produce scholarship that is simultaneously high-quality and accessible.

We seek to have a broad and interdisciplinary approach to research and writing, and encourage writers to contribute comprehensive, insightful, and mindful work portraying the wide variety of black experiences in the United States and throughout the diaspora.
