Should I take Stat 111 or Stat 240?

Should I take Stat 240 or Stat 111? What’s the difference?

Stat 111 (Elementary Statistics) is a course in statistical literacy. Stat 111 is not concerned with how to find tests, but rather only  with  the interpretation of them. The mechanics of conducting these tests are left to a graphing calculator.

Stat 240 (Introductory Statistics) is a standard introductory  course in Statistics. In Stat 240 we learn theory behind , conduct the calculations, and implement these tests in Minitab, a Statistical software package.

Why would I take Stat 240 instead of Stat 111?

If you ever plan on taking any other course in statistics (or if you’re unsure!), you should take Stat 240. If you ever want to use statistics in the real world, you should take Stat 240.  If you want to put on a resume that you know how to use a statistical package, you should take Stat 240. It is worth noting that the School of Management (and other departments) and some other colleges do not accept Stat 111 for their requirements. You should check with your department, college or advisor first. Stat 240 would be your safe bet.
