Welcome back (one last time seniors!)

Welcome back, SAA, and welcome to the team, new members! Congrats everyone, we have made it halfway through the school year! With the homecoming parade, the goal-surpassed turnout at the multi-color mile, a successful bears that care fund-raising campaign, and of course our delightful and delicious (donuts!) retreat at Austin Brothers’ family farm, SAA sure has a lot to be proud of. That being said, we now have new goals, as we do our best to surpass our previous accomplishments. We are always striving and hoping to expand our influence on campus in any ways that we can. That being said, this semester will be particularly crucial in engaging new members and growing in size as we continue to rise to our highest potential. The end of this semester we will see a bittersweet turnout as SAA will be graduating about one third of its members as they officially become UMass alumni! That being said, this semester we will try our hardest to not only recruit as many freshmen, sophomores, and juniors as possible, but also to be sure to instill our leadership duties onto an almost entirely new cabinet and executive board team for this coming fall. This semester we will aim to train and mentor those who demonstrate an interest and aptitude to fill our positions, and our current cabinet and e board will ensure that this transition is as smooth and manageable as possible! With all that being said, we are looking for opportunists within our new and current member crowd to step up to the plate. SAA has always been a highly-motivated, welcoming, and intelligent group of young adults, and for that reason, we are truly faithful that SAA will continue to be as strong as ever, even in the absence of our current seniors. Luckily we had a great turnout at our biannual open house on Monday (see pictures below)!

So what’s on the agenda this spring?!

Career Month

March, is typically known as “career month” on campus, as many students and employers find this time fruitful for internship and employment recruiting. To accompany all of the career fairs and application deadlines, SAA will be hosting a networking night as we have done quite successfully in the past. Our goal will be to connect as many students that wish to attend with current UMass alumni, so that students may gain career insight and have some food and drinks as well! There will be more details about this event as it approaches.

We will also be partnering with the Alumni Association for a series of events during Career Month called the “Moving To…” series, where students can learn about moving to Boston, NYC, and Washington D.C. after graduation. Alumni panelists will share their stories and tips for moving to (or back to!) these cities after UMass.

CASE ASAP

CASE ASAP is an annual, regional conference attended by several student-alumni organizations across the northeast. We look forward to sharing our ideas and gaining perspectives on some new ideas that may further benefit our organization.

Commencement Ball

The senior class has spoken and has officially chosen “A Storybook Night to be the theme of this year’s 2500 senior event, hosting 2,500 people. That being said, this night is going to take a great deal of careful planning and participation from every single member! This is our most prominent spring semester tradition and we have a lot to accomplish!

We’ve got a lot to look forward to, but also a lot of commitments to fulfill. We are now settled in and ready to work!

GO SAA!
