Llyr is underway!

Llyr is finally underway, after so many months of preparation and anticipation! It appears we have a fine weather window for our trip across the gulf stream and on to Bermuda. We left Salem this morning, a crew of six onboard, sorely missing Rowan who broke his collar bone on Tuesday night. He will fly down to the DR after he and Janis attend the Quail Hollow craft show in New Paltz, NY, Memorial Day weekend. Luke and Lucy, two additional crew are with us. They will sail with us to the DR, at which point they return to the US en route to Palmyra Atol in the Pacific, where they work for the Nature Conservancy. We were excited to have porpoises surfing and fishing off our bow the first day out! In the past weeks we’ve been busy preparing to leave the farm and finishing our refit and provisioning of Llyr. Brooks and Connor dove on the hull to remove barnacles, algae, and other growth below the waterline. Slackening winds are bringing us along the eastern beaches of Cape Cod as we write. More to come after we cross the gulf stream and enter Bermuda!
