About the MSE IDGP

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (IDGP) in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is a new program at UMass Amherst dedicated to training the next generation of innovators and leaders in MSE.

The MSE IDGP brings together nearly 60 faculty from Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and Physics. We work in a wide range of fields such as Advanced Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Biomaterials, Catalysis, Energy Conversion and Storage, Multiscale Modeling and Simulation, Nanoelectronics, Nanotechnology, Quantum Computing, and Soft Matter, among others. Our faculty and students work in a highly collaborative, diverse, and interdisciplinary environment to acquire expertise spanning the design, synthesis, characterization, modeling, and integration of materials and materials systems.

The MSE IDGP offers thesis and non-thesis (coursework based) M.S. degrees and Ph.D. degrees. We invite you to learn more about our degree programs and the admissions process.

We look forward to welcoming you at UMass Amherst!
