Fellowships and Grants for Undergrads
Tiffany received the Research Assistant Fellowship. Tristan and Alkmini were awarded the Honors Research Grant. Congratulations!
Welcome Haley!
Haley Aponte has recently joined the lab as a new Master’s student. She successfully earned her B.S. in Biology from UMass Amherst in May of this year. As an undergraduate, she gained valuable research experience during a summer internship at the University of Tennessee, Oak Ridge Innovation Institute. Haley will be taking over Casey’s drug delivery project. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Haley!

Hiro’s paper published in eLife
Hiro’s work, entitled “A cell wall synthase accelerates plasma membrane partitioning in mycobacteria”, was published in eLife. In this collaborative work, Hiro showed that PonA2 mediates membrane partitioning during recovery from membrane fluidizing stress. It is a pioneering work to reveal the mechanism of membrane compartmentalization in mycobacteria. Congratulations!!
Tristan at REU Poster Symposium
Tristan presents his research progress at the all campus REU Poster Symposium. Olivia, an MMID Summer Research Fellow, was also at the symposium, presenting the work she conducted under the guidance of Bipro in the Andrew’s lab and Hiro.
Summer research experience for high school students
We are supporting two students from local high schools to experience research in microbiology. They will work with Ian Sparks to visualize mutants of Mycobacterium smegmatis under fluorescence microscopy to determine genes important for cell growth and division.
Tristan joins the lab
Tristan Grieve, an undergraduate researcher supported by the Lee SIP Program, joins the lab. Welcome Tristan!
Malavika and Hiro at BBM
Malavika and Hiro presented their posters at the Boston Bacterial Meeting.
