There are five semester quizzes and a final exam. The five semester quizzes will be given via your WileyPLUS online homework account. I highly encourage you to take your five quizzes without any aids. Although there is no way for me to ensure you are taking your quizzes without any aids, you will want to consider the repercussions of using help on the quizzes. If you do not learn the material to the extent that you can successfully master the quiz questions without any help, you will not necessarily be prepared for your proctored final exam. So, please take the quizzes with just your own brain and a calculator.

The quizzes will open on the first day of the semester or summer/winter session and will close at 11:59 PM on dates specified each semester/session. These dates will be posted on the course Blackboard page.

The Mathematics and Statistics Department, in accordance with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, continues to promote the integrity and security of its courses. To further secure its courses, the department will require a proctored final exam for all of its online courses, including math127. You will need to show a picture ID card (i.e. a license) in order to take the final exam.

The final exam will be a 30 question, cumulative, multiple choice exam and there is no partial credit. You are required to pass the final exam with 15 out of 30 questions correct in order to pass the course. See the Grading page for more information.

You will have two options to choose from in order to take your final exam:

• Option #1: You will take the final exam on the UMass campus with me on a date to be determined by the start of the semester or session.

• Option #2: You will take the final exam off campus with an approved proctor on  a date to be determined by the start of the semester. Note: All outside proctors must be approved by me.

Outside proctors should be: an accredited testing center or an approved proctoring center.

This page may help you get started finding a suitable proctoring center.

You will need to let me know the proctoring center and proctor’s name you’d like to use by a predetermined date. I will then “vet” the proctoring center and see if it will be okay to use. If you do not contact me with your preference by that date I will automatically schedule you to take the final exam with me on the UMass campus.

If you miss a quiz or the final exam, you need to contact me immediately. Depending on the circumstance, you may be allowed to make it up. It will be my discretion as to whether you will get to makeup up a missed quiz or final exam. There may be a penalty associated with the makeup.
