Overview
This course brings together two research traditions that have largely developed independently – spoken word recognition and gradient (phonotactic) grammaticality – with the goal of identifying mutually informing connections. How are the phonological grammar and lexicon organized and accessed in real time during lexical and phonological processing? How are the lexicon and grammar involved in various psycholinguistic tasks (acceptability judgments, lexical decision, word learning, segmentation, priming…)? How might the incremental processes of speech perception and lexical access interact with the grammar and judgments of grammaticality?
