Dec. 9: Navy awards BRC grant to study soft matter cavitation

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has awarded Profs. Al Crosby (Polymer Science and Engineering),  Jae-Hwang Lee (Mechanical and Industrial Engineering),  Gregory Tew (Polymer Science and Engineering), Shelly Peyton (Chemical Engineering), Shengqiang Cai (UC San Diego), and Robert Riggleman (U Penn) the Basic Research Challenge (BRC) grant entitled “A Multiscale Theoretical and Experimental Platform for Understanding Cavitation Deformation Dynamics”. Within this $2.7M project, the Lee Lab will focus on high-rate mechanical characterization of soft matter using laser induced cavitation and femtosecond microscopy.
