Research Opportunities

Post Doctoral Fellow:

The Carter group is currently searching for two Postdoctoral Fellows (June 2019). See details for each position below:

Postdoctoral Fellow: Innovation and Commercialization Research on Functional Nanocellulose Materials

There is an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Polymer Science & Engineering department at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.  As a postdoctoral researcher, the candidate will study and develop synthetic pathways to new functional nanocellulose material. The scientist will also fabricate test structures and devices. The research will involve the development of materials advanced materials and pathways towards commercialization.. The candidate should have strong interest in exploration of technology commercialization and will participate in innovation and entrepreneurship training activities at UMass-Amherst. As this is a leadership role in the group, the candidate will also help mentor and train graduate and undergraduate students and help direct research pursuits in the above-mentioned areas. Proposal writing, documentation of work through publications in top journals, and patent filings will be required.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, engineering or related disciplines, with experience with polymeric materials, synthesis and processing.  A strong history in advanced organic materials or reactive polymeric materials is also highly desirable.  The candidate must also have a desire to engage in commercialization efforts.  Interested candidates should provide a cover letter, complete CV, brief research statement, and the names of three references to Professor Kenneth R. Carter, 416 Conte Building, 120 Governors Drive, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003.  Though not encouraged, applications may be sent electronically to mailto:krcarter@polysci.umass.edu.
