“Early overnutrition alters synaptic development in the arcuate nucleus”
The prevalence of childhood and adult onset obesity is rising and contributes to numerous disease states. The arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus is heavily involved in the control of food intake and metabolism, however, how early overnutrition impacts synapse development is largely unknown. In this presentation Dr. Roberts will discuss some of his recent work focusing on how nutritional state alters the development of neurons in the arcuate nucleus. As a new lab member in Dr. Karasoreos’ lab, he will also discuss how he will integrate this work into new research directions here at UMass.
