Sequence, hierarchy, and recursion: keys to numerical thinking
I need your help (!) to better frame a grant proposal on the neurocognitive basis of numerical thinking. In particular, I plan to tackle the hypothesis that the concept of natural numbers arises from complex cognitive processes involving the representation of sequence, hierarchy, and recursion. Using EEG and fMRI, I aim to determine the neural sources of such cognitive processes. In this talk (or rather a discussion) I would like to share the key research question and some of the experimental ideas that my lab has been developing, and would like to invite creative ideas to help better frame this proposal to make it appealing to grant agencies (e.g., NIH).
