How do mothers mother? Flexibility and Plasticity in the Maternal Circuitry Across the Postpartum Period

The process of motherhood depends on the crucial maternal ability to link sensory cues with the underlying needs of the young, and promptly and contingently respond to their evolving needs. How do mothers tune their caregiving behavior to the young’s needs, affect, and developmental stage? The work I will present used animal models to understand the neurobiological modulation of the maternal circuitry that orchestrates sensitive maternal caregiving across the postpartum period
