Integrating Geosciences and Engineering in the Arctic -IGEA- is a course designed and advised by Dr. Colin Gleason at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This two semester long (spring and fall) course designed for undergraduate students in the College of Engineering and the Department of Geosciences has been preparing and sending students to do research in Alaska for the past two years. This year’s IGEA group consists of 10 students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Smith College eager to explore the Arctic. If all goes according to plan, we will travel to the North Slope of Alaska to collect qualitative and quantitative data on beaded streams.
Following a few weeks of field work in the summer, we will return to class in the fall semester to synthesize our data and observations into a final product. Come join us on our journey!
Our research is funded by the National Science Foundation and UMass Amherst alumni.
