ASTM Standards and Engineering Digital Library on Trial

The ASTM Standards and Engineering Digital Library collects industry-leading standards and technical engineering information covering aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, geological, health and safety, industrial, materials science, mechanical, nuclear, petroleum, soil science, and solar engineering. You can search by keyword or browse by category.

The trial continues through March 31st, 2014.  Please share your feedback (UMass NetID required for UMass Apps) with us about this resource.

Trial for Engineering Case Studies Online

Engineering Case Studies Online is a database of videos and textual sources from Alexander Street Press covering engineering successes and failures. You can browse by event (e.g. Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse), subject (e.g. civil engineering, construction, nuclear engineering) or search by title, discipline, organization, content type and more.

The trial continues through March 31st, 2014.  Please share your feedback (UMass NetID required for UMass Apps) with us about this resource.

New Indexes for Book, Data and Patent Citations, Biological and Chemical Research, and More!

The Libraries have purchased backfiles and current access to the following new databases available on the Web of Knowledge platform from Thomson:

Subject coverage of these databases covers the humanities, sciences and social sciences, and they complement our existing Web of Science core resources.

Please contact a reference librarian if you have questions about any of these new sources.

Explore Inspec for Electrical Engineering Literature

The Inspec index of articles, book chapters, conference proceedings and other scholarly works covers physics, electrical engineering, electronics, controls, information technology and manufacturing back to 1898. Produced by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Inspec is available on the Ebscohost platform. You can search by keyword, subject, author, or title and limit by date, publication type, language and more. From the indexing and abstracts you can link to full-text where available through UMLinks.

Synthesis Computer and Information Science Collection Added

The Libraries have recently purchased the Synthesis Computer and Information Science Collection Four, a subject sub-collection of the Synthesis Digital Library of Engineering and Computer Science Collection Four. The Libraries also have Synthesis Digital Library of Engineering and Computer Science Collections One, Two, and Three. Each lecture is in an e-book format and covers a research or development topic. Topical series include Algorithms and Software in Engineering, Artificial Intelligence in Machine Learning, Biomaterials, Data Management, Semantic Web: Theory and Technology, Synthetic Biology, and many more.

For assistance with these resources, contact Paulina Borrego, Computer Science Liaison Librarian, at 413-545-7891.

New Source of U.S. Government Technical Reports

The TRAIL (Technical Report Archive and Image Library) database, a joint project of the Center for Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance and the University of Washington Libraries, includes full-text of U.S. government technical reports published before 1975. You can conduct a simple keyword search, or an advanced search for terms in the author, title, year, and issuing agency fields.

For assistance with this resource, contact Maxine Schmidt, Civil and Environmental Engineering liaison librarian, at 413-545-6739.

Additions to Synthesis Digital Library of Engineering and Computer Science

The Libraries has purchased Collections Two and Three of the Morgan & Claypool Synthesis Digital Library of Engineering and Computer Science. The Digital Library contains over 300 lectures  about topics under research and development. The lectures are 50-100 pages in length, organized into over 40 series ranging from biomaterials to computer vision, quantum computing and tissue engineering. You can browse through lectures in the series or conduct keyword searches.
