The Developmental Disabilities and Human Services program offers opportunities for course-based service learning to students within and beyond the DDHS program. Students in DDHS can count 40 hours toward the internship requirement for each of these service learning courses.
Students in this service learning course pair up to provide respite care to a local family raising a child, adolescent, or adult with an intellectual or developmental disabilities. Students complete a weekly class on campus (50 minutes) and three hours per week of field experience.
Adapted Horseback Riding
Students in this course complete a weekly course at the UMass Hadley Farm (1.5 hours) as well as three hours of field experience directly supporting children, adolescents and adults with disabilities in horseback riding and horsemanship education activities.
