    Vinh,
The final is scheduled by the administration, in an effort to ensure that each student can accommodate final examinations (2 hrs long) during a single week. All times are awful; all are wonderful. Early finals are wonderful because you might get to go home early – but they are awful because you have very little time to prepare. Late final (like ours) are wonderful because you have lots of time to prepare – but awful because you go home late.

Hi Professor Knapp, I was wondering if you’d be updating the weekly reading lists. I know you post them in the main blog as the dates roll by, but it would be helpful to know what reading should be done for the week. Thanks!

    Chicken/egg.
Both lecture and book teach chemistry, but the approaches are somewhat different. In particular, the book can cover much more material. So I approach the lecture as a time to cover ideas that are either challenging or important to permitting further learning.

    Hi Mehreen,
Not exactly yes. Maybe, but only if I think that it’s really necessary.

Normally, PRS is graded on simple participation, not on correct answers (eg: any answer gets you credit). If I think that enough of the students need a gentle prod to catch up with material, then I might offer limited PRS-based quizzes (where only the correct answer gets you credit) on key ideas from recent reading. But this is not currently on tap.
