Using Latex to write your UMass dissertation March 14, 2007Posted by bdonovan in : Latex, Software, Writing , comments closed
I, like a number of other people, use latex and the umthesis style file to write my proposal and dissertation. This style will format the document according to the grad school requirements. You can clean up some of your directory clutter by storing the package in its own directory. Create a directory where ever you like, I use ~/lib/tex/umthesis , and unzip the package. The add the following (adjusted) lines to you bash .profile (.bash_profile).
The first line is for latex and the second for bibtex. The programs will not search down trees so you will have to edit this is if you add additional packages.

OIT has been nice enough to add blogging support to our webspaces. I never did put in the time for the blogger accounts but maybe I will try this a bit more.
