Woodworks

WoodWorks® Design Office Software is installed on the computers in the Design Building rooms 235, and 260. You may need to send me the software ID of the computer you’re working on. If so, follow steps 3 and 4 below.

If you are registered in BCT 540, you can install the educational version of WoodWorks® Software on your computer for free! Just follow these steps:

1) Download the US DO11 SR1 Educational Version of WoodWorks and save/run the file on your computer.

2) Follow the instructions on your screen to install the program.

3) Run the program “Sizer” from your start menu. You will see a window requesting a keycode with an associated software ID.

4) Copy your software ID exactly as shown and email it to me at clouston@umass.edu. I will email back your keycode so that the program will work.

NOTE! If you experienced difficulties related to Visual C++ Runtime Libraries, then please install this package.

Here’s a note from Woodworks® on its rational for providing the software for free to students and professors:

“It is becoming increasingly important that engineering students be familiar with the design principles for wood structures, since the majority of housing in Canada and the US are built in wood. The need to move towards “engineered” buildings (even for small buildings that have been prescriptively designed in the past) has already started.

The purpose of distributing WoodWorks® Design Office free to students is to introduce them to a valuable wood design tool at your school by having you incorporate the software into your curriculum. We believe this will encourage graduating students to specify wood products confidently and efficiently in their future design careers.”
