Astronomy 101/190z—Two-Stage Exam Instructions

PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Take two copies of the computer scan sheet.

Print your last name, a space, then first name (no middle initial please) on the scan sheet, and fill in the “bubbles.”

Write your 8-digit student ID number on the scan sheet under “IDENTIFICATION NUMBER” spaces A-H. Fill in the bubbles.

Be careful to match up your question number with the number on the scan sheet, and thoroughly erase all changed answers and stray marks.

No calculators, cell phones, computers, or other electronic aids are allowed.

EXAM STAGE 1:

Be sure to answer question 1 accurately about which version of the exam you have.

Answer the additional 44 true-false and multiple-choice questions on the scan sheet.

You will also want to mark your choices on the exam itself in preparation for Stage 2.

After 45 minutes I will ask you to turn in the scan sheet.

If you are done earlier, please wait quietly and keep your scan sheet until I ask for them to be turned in.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY: IF YOU ARE DONE WITH STAGE 1 AND MORE THAN TEN MINUTES REMAIN, you may:

(1)Leave the room for a short break before starting Stage 2 if you do all of the following:

Leave everything at your seat except your first scantron sheet.

Bring up your first scantron sheet to turn in.

Remain outside the room until after Stage 2 begins and I ask you back inside.

(2)Turn in your exam and skip Stage 2 entirely if you do all of the following:

Collect all your belongings.

Bring up both scantron sheets (just fill out and “bubble” Name & ID on 2nd one) and your exam.

Have your ID card out.

EXAM STAGE 2:

Remain seated and quiet until after we have collected all of the exams, I will make an announcement, and you can then begin the cooperative stage of the exam.

Mark any answers on the second scan sheet that you would like to change your answer. (The computer will carry over any answers that you don’t change from Stage 1 to Stage 2.)

Make sure you answer the questions according to the same version of the exam you used during Stage 1. The answer key used for both stages will be the same!

When you are done with Stage 2, turn in the 2nd scantron. You must turn in the 2nd scantron with your name and ID# filled in even if you do not change any answers.

Please have your student ID out.
