Do small sensors need to be ‘high tech’?

In our work, as I am sure is similar in many of your projects, we often default to a design position where we are trying to build something that is durable and convenient for use in the real world.  I’m not talking about how strong the calibration might be, or how well we can characterize interference; rather, we struggle with decisions on how do we house and deploy this equipment. given that we are targeting a design that maximizes empowerment.  Do we install them in rugged Pelican© cases?  Do we bundle the wires nicely by using cable restraints or leave them loose inside the container?  Is it okay to hang the equipment with an old nail, or use quick connect stainless fasteners which I can only buy from an industrial supply house?   Continue reading
