I am an Associate Professor of Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. My research has dealt with intonational development – how do children acquire intonational forms and their meanings?  Most recently, I am interested in the language of nurture, and how caregivers and children interact with each other across cultures.

To date, my research projects have focused on Spanish (Puerto Rican, Peninsular), Catalan (Central, Majorcan), Portuguese (Brazilian) and English (American).
