Fall 2009 Review: Veteran’s Weekend Tournament

10 01 2010

And the Fall 2009 Quidditch Review continues!

Our Veteran’s Weekend Tournament was just as intense against Yale and Emerson. With a full PA system, sweets and Pitch-A-Snitch, this was quire a successful event, catching the interested of over 100 people. Each team played each other twice in a round robin style. The pictures prove just how intense Quidditch is, whenever and wherever:

UMass vs. Yale:

UMass vs. Emerson:

Emerson once again took the lead, with UMass in second and Yale in third for both rounds of game play.
Overall, the tournament went very well, and if it weren’t for our awesome refs, officers and commentators, WMUA and all the team members, nothing like this would have happened at all. Good job, everyone!

The Teams:

As for the rest of the fall season, UMass Quidditch has had a few social events such as a game night, movie night, a mini Yule Ball and a trip to see Harry Potter: the Exhibition. These were great opportunities to kick back, relax and hang out as a group.

The 2010 season is just around the corner and the UMass Quidditch officers are working very hard to plan for another very fun and eventful semester. Stay tuned!

Fall 2009 Review: Quidditch World Cup

10 01 2010

The 2009 Fall Semester was a great season for all! UMass Quidditch not only gain some new members, but we also had the chance to participate in two big tournaments!

We had a fairly big group of people come to our earlier practices just to learn how to play Quidditch and to have fun. With warm-ups, drills and scrimmages and two practices a week, we were getting prepared for the first major event of the year: the Quidditch World Cup. We’ve got it all right here:

UMass vs. Boston University:

UMass vs. Emerson:

UMass vs. Harvard:

UMass took losses against BU and Emerson, but won against Harvard by 40-30. Unfortunately, we were eliminated from the first round of game play, like many other teams were. Middlebury ended up being the champions, of course, with Emerson coming in 2nd place and BU in 3rd place. It was definitely a competitive tournament this year, and with Intercollegiate Quidditch spreading even more, we’ll need to step up the competition for next year’s tournament.

That still didn’t stop us from playing in our Veteran’s Tournament, which will be covered in the next post!
