Welcome

I’m a sociologist and Assistant Professor of Legal Studies at University of Massachusetts Amherst. I study how law, society and culture contribute to social and structural inequality, both within and across borders.

My current book project, tentatively titled The Dramatic Rise and Uneven Impacts of International Human Trafficking Policy examines the recent proliferation of counter-human trafficking law and its impacts on disadvantaged populations. Prior to academia I worked for nongovernment organizations in Brazil and Cambodia.

My work is published in Law & Policy, Mobilization, and Dignity, and supported by institutions such as the National Science Foundation and Human Rights Center at UC Berkeley. I have a Ph.D. in Sociology from University of California Irvine, with additional degrees in Anthropology, Social Science, and Gender Studies.
