As the State deals with budget shortfalls, Public Higher Education is once again getting left behind and put into the pocketbooks of private foundations, students and their parents. Concurrently programs, departments, staffing and faculty are being cut exorbitantly risking the quality and integrity of the university. The State is estimating that the budget will likely be cut by an additional 6-10%. So what is our university doing about it? The Chancellor, The President and The Board of Trustees have all made it clear that a fee increase, most likely a significant one, is very likely and something they mostly support. Yet Students and Faculty across the state still insist that the state has a responsibility to INVEST in higher education to prevent further increases in cost to students and families of <em>all</em>income levels. What do you think? How should students react to the budget crisis facing us all? How can we work together with Faculty, Staff and Administrators to ensure that Public Higher Education is put as a priority? If Budget Cuts do have to happen, what do you think should be prioritized on campus? How do you feel about a fee increase?
