Criminal Justice Internships

Interested in a Criminal Justice Internship for Spring 2012 or beyond?

Start planning NOW- Sheriff Garvey, director of CJ internships is meeting with interested students on Tuesdays from 3-5pm in Thompson Hall room 732.

Recent placements have been in:

- The Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction: security and treatment placements
- Probation: District, Superior, and Juvenile Courts
- Local District Attorney’s office
- Police Departments
- Department of Youth Services

And many more! Many internships are locally placed but Sheriff Garvey has also placed students around the country- especially in Boston and Washington D.C.

Student Legal Services Internships – Fall 2011

The UMass Student Legal Services Office — the on-campus law office that exists solely to represent UMass students free or for a low fee — is now accepting applications for interns for the Fall 2011 semester.  This 12-credit internship requires  32 hours/week of work.  Interns work on a variety of different matters in addition to taking. part in a weekly training seminars.

Internship: UMass Student Legal Services Office

The UMass Student Legal Services Office is now accepting applications for its Legal Assistant Internships for Spring 2011.  This 12-credit internship requires to 32 hours/week of work in the busy on-campus law office that serves the legal needs of students.  Interns work on a variety of different matters in addition to taking part in a weekly training seminars.

Student Legal Services Internship Applications Available

The UMass Amherst Student Legal Services Office offers a Legal Assistant Internship program every semester, and applications are now available for Fall 2010.  This a 12-credit internship (32 hours/week) that provides students with an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a working law office right here on campus.  Students, under the direct supervision of attorneys, are involved in range of legal work, including client interviews, negotiations, drafting of letters to clients and others, investigations, and preparation for administrative and court hearings, among other activities.  Students also attend weekly training sessions.  Best of all, the internship is right here on campus.

Applications are available in the Student Legal Services Office at Campus Center 922, and in the Pre-Law Advising Office in 122 Thompson. Applications are due April 21st.

Boston Lawyers Group summer internships

The Boston Lawyers Group announces its 2010 Summer Internship Program.  The BLG’s summer internship program introduces talented college students from diverse backgrounds to career opportunities with the legal profession. The program enables students of color to develop and enhance skills applicable to professional careers in general and introduce them to Boston’s legal community.

BLG Summer Interns work in a law firm, government agency or corporate legal department for ten weeks typically starting in June though early August.  Each intern’s work assignments are determined by the sponsoring BLG member organization.  In addition to the “on the job-experience,” the BLG interns participate in fun and interactive professional development workshops.  Each workshop is designated to give the intern a look into a specific area of the legal profession.  The workshops for the 2010 Summer Program include:

Introduction to Office Etiquette
Boston Area Law School Tours
Mock Law School Class
Resume Review Workshop
Observing a Live Court Trial
Luncheons with Attorneys and Law Students
Day in Court:  A Mock Trial Production

For further information on the internship program, the students are invited to attend an Informational Meeting taking place at Sullivan & Worcester, One Post Office Square, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 5:30 pm.

This is a great opportunity to get some hands-on legal experience, working alongside the attorneys in the UMass Student Legal Services Office, right here on campus.  Application deadline for this 12-credit internship is this Wednesday, November 25th. Summer Internship – Reproductive Rights Activist Service Corps

The Reproductive Rights Activist Service Corps (RRASC) is a paid summer internship program of the Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program (CLPP) at Hampshire College. We place undergraduate students from Western Massachusetts colleges at reproductive rights and social justice organizations for ten-week internships.

The RRASC program defines reproductive justice broadly to include human rights, economic justice, racial equality, queer rights, immigrants’ rights, access to health services, and youth empowerment.

RRASC internships are substantive in nature. Interns participate in organizing, advocacy, direct service, education, technical support, and research at a wide range of non-profit organizations throughout the country and internationally.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a current undergraduate student at one of the following institutions: Amherst College, Hampshire College, Greenfield Community College, Holyoke Community College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield Technical Community College, or the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
  • Not be graduating from a 4 year program (BA) in Spring 2009
  • Not be on a leave of absence from your college (including study abroad) in Spring 2009

The application deadline is Friday, February 13, 2009 at 4pm.
