Welcome!

Phonolist is a blog and weekly e-mail newsletter that hosts announcements and discussion for the phonological community.  We aim to send out newsletters on Fridays with all posts that haven’t appeared in a previous newsletter. To (un)subscribe to the newsletter please fill out the form here.

Announcements may include published or unpublished research that is being made publicly accessible, conference calls or programs, jobs, PhD positions, etc. Discussion topics should be of relevance to phonologists. All posts may have comments, at the discretion of the original poster. When you comment for the first time, it will need to be approved. See this post for instructions on getting a Gravatar if you’d like to replace your default avatar.

To submit a post, send an e-mail to phonolist@umass.edu. Include in the body of the email the post as you would like to appear. At the beginning of your e-mail, please indicate your post title, and whether you’d like comments enabled for it. Your post will start with “From ___” (e-mail: ). Also indicate if you for some reason don’t want your name or e-mail address to appear. Keep in mind that when the posts go out in the newsletter, only the first few sentences are included, so get some of the main points up front. Only actual URLs (as opposed to hyperlinks) will come through as clickable links in the newsletter, so use them if you want people to be able to click straight through (as opposed to coming to this blog).

We also repost all submissions to the Rutgers Optimality Archive, and all phonology submissions to  LingBuzz. Please send an e-mail to phonolist@umass.edu if you’d like comments enabled for a paper that you’ve posted to one of these archives.

Phonolist is maintained by Gaja Jarosz and Joe Pater.
