Lodging

We made arrangements for a block of rooms at Hadley, a place nearby on the route of bus 43.

We have an agreement for 10 rooms with a minimum of two-nights during the conference. Make sure you book before September 16.

See here for details.

The conference has made also arrangements for a block of rooms at the Howard Johnson Inn, 247 Whiting Farms Rd. in Holyoke, a town 20 miles south of Amherst.  Phone: 413-535-3000, linkThe price for one night is $89 per room (plus $12.75 tax).  To get that price, you need to say you are with the “UMass Linguistics” group for October 3-6.  They will have everything set up for us by Monday September 9.   The rate and the availability are guaranteed through September 27.

The hotel has just changed hands and has updated all the guest rooms and halls (and the breakfast room).  There are no reviews for it, but we visited it to make sure!  It’s not a 5-star hotel, but imho, it is a solid 3-stars. The conference will organize transportation to and from UMass for people who stay there.

We found it hard to use their website and even their phone system was tricky and frustrating.  We suggest that you use the website if possible with the information above (after 9/9).  We also have the email for Janet Vetrano (jvetrano@shieldhotels.com), the sales director who is extending the rate and reserving the rooms.  If you run into *any* trouble, Barbara Pearson, bpearson@research.umass.edu, has volunteered to be the go-between.  Send her your information and she will try to get it to Ms. Vetrano.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
