Comments(58) I think I mentioned before that things are pretty expensive here in Sweden. Well it turns out that one of the things that’s particularly expensive is getting a haircut. A “cheap” haircut here comes out to about $30, so I decided it made sense for me to go and get my own hair clipper. It’s something I had considered doing back home, but haircuts aren’t as expensive at home and I figured I wouldn’t be very good at cutting my own hair. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow after the clipper finishes charging. I found a picture of the clipper I got here.
Amanda asked me to discuss some of the misconceptions that I’ve heard about Americans. I think the one I’ve heard most is that Americans are much more welcoming and easy to get to know than Swedes. I haven’t found that at all, and at least half of the people I hang out with are Swedes. There are also quite a few people here who assume that it is considerably warmer back in Massachusetts than it is here, but I don’t know that it’s ever been below 25 degrees during the day while I’ve been here. For the most part it’s been between 30 and 35.
A girl named Sofia who was assigned to me in a sort of buddy program asked me about these things, but she also had the impression that Americans were generally poor swimmers, which I found amusing. Not only are most Americans pretty decent swimmers from what I’ve seen, but now that I look at it Americans won 28 medals in swimming in the 2004 Olympics, which is almost double what any other country had.
Other than those, there haven’t been many misconceptions. A girl from Singapore thought that Boston was a state, but I don’t really expect people here to be to familiar with American geography. The more time I spend here, the more I realize just how bad I am with geography outside of the US. The same girl also assumed that Ross must have a 4.0 because he’s at IIT. If I think of anything else, I’ll add it in now, but that’s all I can think of for now.

I don’t know about Massachusetts, but I know it’s colder here in Maine – and much snowier – than in southern Sweden – at least this winter! And you might tell your Swedish friends that MA is spelled Massasjösetts – that should come out pretty close.

Yes! So totally true. Getting a decent cut is expensive these days. But seriously, I’d rather not see the face of a scissor when dealing with my hair. I happen to like my hair long and the occasional trim is much appreciated. I do however take time to get some advice on how to best take care of my locks from hair plugs or anything related under the world wide web. Try it yourself. It’s worth it.

my father had a biopsy of his urinary tract last week, the urologist thinks these tumors in his bladder are from the radiation he had when they removed the prostate, after this biopsy he cannot control his bladder and urinates when he stands up, he has gone thru 8-9 depends every day until he sees the urologist tuesday….is this normal? My father before that bleed and had clots that would stop him up to not urinate, he has worn a calfiter, on and off for 2 weeks before this biopsy….i have heard this Doctors good but his bedside manners and not explaining whats going on is stressing my family out.
