WebAssign access
January 12th, 2012 by math132Why can’t I log in to Math 132 in WebAssign?
Here are several possible reasons.
- Because your lecture section instructor has not yet uploaded the class roster to WebAssign yet. S/he will do so soon, perhaps waiting a couple of days until course enrollment is more stable. Note that:
- your instructor puts you onto the roster for WebAssign;
- you do not roster yourself;
- you do not use any “course code”;
- your Username is your UMassNetID, that is, the username you use for Spire; this is also usually the part of your e-mail address before the
@sign; - the Institution is just
umass; - your password is the same as you last set if you used WebAssign before, but otherwise it is your Student ID number.
- Because you added Math 132 after your instructor uploaded the roster to WebAssign. In this case, notify your lecture section instructor so s/he can roster you in WebAssign. (You do not roster yourself!)
- Because you bought only one-semester WebAssign access last semester in Math 131: see “Does WebAssign access you bought for Math 131 also work for Math 132″, below.
Access code deadline for login
Beginning 12:00 a.m. Wednesday 2 February, you will be unable to use WebAssign unless you have supplied your access code.
Does WebAssign access you bought for Math 131 also work for Math 132?
Yes—if you bought the e-book + WebAssign package (with or without a printed book) at the Textbook Annex last semester, then the same access code should work again.
Here’s how to check—even before your instructor uploads the class roster to WebAssign for your particular section of Math 132. Look at the access coupon’s Prefix, as shown here. If that access code is one of the following…
BCEnhanced-2S/3Q
EWA&eBook-MTB
EWA-MTB
EWAMath&Sci-2S/3Q
Enhanced-2S/3Q
Serway-2S/3Q
WebAssign-2S/3Q
then the access you bought is for two semesters, and the same access code should be OK for Math 132.
Otherwise, you undoubtedly bought an access code good only for one semester; then you’ll need to buy one semester’s WebAssign access now. The easiest and cheapest way is to do so directly at http://webassign.net.
How do I log in now if I used WebAssign before with a different Username?
Suppose you used WebAssign in another course before, perhaps in Math 131, but with a Username that is not your NetID. You need to link your old account and your new account (created when your 132 instructor rosters you). Here’s how:
- Log in with either Username (but the new one won’t work until your 132 instructor uploads the roster!)
- Click the My Options link near the top-right corner of the window.

- In the My Options window that pops up, click the Accounts tab.

- On that tab, type the Username and Password for the other account, and the Password for the account you just logged into.
- Click Save.
Once the old and new accounts, with their different Usernames, are linked, you will get a Transfer option.
Welcome!
January 11th, 2011 by math132Welcome to Math 132, Calculus II.
Thanks to Professor Eisenberg !
Professor Eisenberg has been a math131-math132 course chair many years, he has done a lot of contribution in management of Calculus teaching and Calculus help center. He created this fabulous math132 course web and well organized everything together, so the instructors and students can find all of information related to the course here. It takes us a lot of convenient. Now he authorize the following math132 course chair Dr. Jinguo Lian to run the course web continuously. Thanks to Professor Eisenberg !
What’s here?
This web site provides information applicable to all sections of Math 132. Your own lecture section instructor will provide additional information specific to just that section, in the form of another web site and/or a printed handout.
The About page here constitutes a comprehensive syllabus for the course. It includes information about the course-wide common exams, on-line homework system, and other course requirements along with the course-wide common grading scheme.
If you have a question about course policy, course operation, grading, etc., you should address it in the first instance directly to your own lecture section instructor.
Want to add Math 132 or change sections?
If you need to add the course or change sections, you should try over and over again to do so in the normal way through Spire.
Note that each weekly discussion section is linked to a specific lecture section. You cannot “mix and match” a discussion section from one lecture section with a different lecture section.
Beginning only Friday 27 January, I will begin to entertain requests for capacity override requests. If by then you have not been able to add an open section through Spire, you may e-mail a request for a capacity override giving the following information:
- your full name, just as it’s shown in Spire
- your UMass student ID number
- your official UMass e-mail address
- are you currently enrolled in some section of Math 132? (If so, which one?)
- are you a new UMass student?
- why did you not enroll in Math 132 during the normal registration period last semester?
- what is your complete course schedule? Attach a copy obtained directly in Spire.
Beginning Monday 30 January, I will begin to approve overrides in order of priority. Any override is subject to: (1) keeping class sizes reasonably balanced across sections; (2) keeping class size from unreasonably ballooning, and (2) keeping within the fire marshal’s classroom occupancy limits.
Just because you are “sitting in” on a particular section where you are not currently enrolled does not mean that I will approve an override for you. Even if you are sitting in on one section, you should keep trying in Spire to see if some section, possibly another, opens up.
What’s new?
In Math 132 you will have only two mid-semester exams, not three.
Contact information
Your primary contact about your work in Math 132 is your own lecture section instructor or discussion section TA.
