A Holyoke middle school teacher for over 20 years, I am currently the 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Morgan school. I started out as an ESL teacher but transitioned to math which I have been teaching for the last 12 years. I am still an ESL teacher at heart and am dedicated to making the connection between math and language an integral component to my classes.
Originally from the metropolitan NY area, I studied ESL at Boston University. As a junior I did study abroad where I taught English in Niamey, Niger in West Africa. Upon graduating I was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship and spent a year teaching English in Versailles, France.
About a year after returning, I moved up to Holyoke and began my teaching career in 1994 at Peck Middle School. In 2004 I was awarded the Pioneer Valley Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2012 I received a NOYCE Fellowship as a Master Teacher.
In addition to working with an urban population I enjoy mentoring new teachers. I have been a mentor within my district for new teachers and have had many student teachers over the years.
I also enjoy traveling and learning new languages. For my next adventure, I plan on visiting the Scandinavian Wildlife Park in Denmark. There’s a polar bear there I’ve been monitoring since his birth.
