Bag lunch talk on black holes in higher dimensions

Talk from our Tuesday high energy physics bag lunch series introducing the physics of black holes in higher dimensions – why is this interesting? how is it different than D=4?

An Extended Kerr-Schild Ansatz

UMass graduate student Ben Ett and I have been exploring the possibilities of a recently suggested (see Aliev & Ciftci) extension of the Kerr-Schild ansatz.  Kerr-Schild has been a very useful framework for finding many, but not all, of the known black hole solutions in four and higher dimensions (e.g. the Myers-Perry rotating higher dimensional black holes have Kerr-Schild form, while the five dimensional black ring does not).   Continue reading ›
