Steroids
The other day I was watching TV and a special on steroids and sports came on and I ended up watching it because it was surprisingly interesting. They were talking about how it has become illegal in many sports and can cause players to be taken out of the game for games or even the season.
Baseball has been a sport that continues to have a problem with players a steroids and has become a bigger issue in the last several years. The reason baseball has such a problem is because those athletes rely on their strength to hit the ball further and throw better. The stronger they are, the better they play (for the most part.
The special talked about the physical and even psychological problems that go along with steroids and the fact that even though they are not addictive, the effects of them are, like doing great in the game and even though players know they are illegal, it seems like they are still taking them. There are side effects though that come along with them that the special talks about but players don’t usually highlight since they are not so great.
Some of the side effects include reduced sperm count, shrinking of testicles and in men, even the development of breasts can start to occur. Pain while urinating can occur and depression is also a common side effect. So while it may make you play better in the baseball game, it really doesn’t seem worth it to be playing a great game but also have all of those things happen to you.
You are putting your health in danger and also your career if you are taking steroids. You need to think seriously, whether you are a professional athlete or just an average joe out there playing pick up softball about taking them. You are not only making your game ‘better’ in a fake way, but you may also be hurting yourself and your family if something were to happen to you. The special about sports players and steroids was really interesting, but the fact is, this isn’t just for the professionals. There are a lot of people effected by steroids from parents to students to want to be professional athletes. You need to think seriously before you make a decision about steroids and your health. Think about everything that could happen: good and bad.
