Various public participation methodologies can be useful in the development of heritage and cultural landscape management plans that include local residents in the decision-making process.  The inclusion of local residents, their views and current use patterns, also has the secondary effect of creating an investment in the long term success of the site.

The walking interview method, outlined below and applied to Ebrington Barracks, Northern Ireland, can elicit a greater understanding of current values and use patterns for a site.  The Storymap was produced by the Re-Invent project of Maynooth University, County Kildare, Ireland.
