Overview
- Write notes on viewing diversity.
- Survey two web drama series.
- Notes on viewing diversity. As we’ll be considering representations of cultures different than our own, what useful lessons might we have learned k-12-college and elsewhere about diversity: How we think, see, speak about class/race/ethnic/gender/other differences? Jot these down. We’ll start next class doing a quick review of these to set some shared groundwork for viewing diversity.
- Survey web drama picks. Pick two web drama series to view and write about.
- For your two web drama series, draw from the survey picks of classmates posted on the course Google docs page:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bDQYY8WN_e0Rg5V7AqjUy_bUR5xfDotR1VBApgrwwdQ/edit
- At least one of your selections should be from a culture different than your own.
- Avoid major corporate productions, e.g. Netflix series.
- For both series, watch about an hour of video – an hour total, not an hour for each.
- Write review notes following last weeks guidelines: Freewrite your responses. Use a personal voice. Include feelings and reflections. Then read it back to see what kinds of genre elements you’ve discussed, e.g. story, characters, style, etc.
- Notes for BOTH web dramas should be no more than a page. Again, not one page for each web series, but one page to cover both.
- These summaries will inform the formation of web drama groups next class to find partners to view and write about the same series.
Written assignments are single-spaced & typed in Times New Roman or Arial (size 12 font), 1-inch margins all around. Remember to proofread. First page should have a heading (single-spaced) with name, date, assignment title. Turn in a hard copy.
