Saxophonist Miguel Zenón offers his most ambitious project yet with a song cycle for his quartet augmented by a 12-piece big band. The evening-length work explores the experience of Puerto Ricans who have moved to the mainland, particularly New York City. Zenón is the most celebrated altoist of his generation, a multi-Grammy nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow who has extended jazz’s conceptual reach with a series of albums exploring the music of Puerto Rico, where he was born.

  1. Thanks for bringing this amazing band to the area. It was great to see Luis Perdomo again. Braving the cold, a very cold, winter evening, to be warmed by such wonderful and creative music was sooooo worth it.

  2. Miguel Zenon’s band vision is very specific. I learned a lot watching Miguel’s body language communicating with his musicians, all of whom were excellent. I also enjoyed wacthing the horn players attentiveness to the paino solo, Miguel’s playing, the drummer’s, trumpet and sax solos. The solos were cubistic, as though seeing an object from the inside out, (counterpoint and sychronistic). The horns and piano explored every imaginable color of the instrument. I could go on and on at how inspired I was walking back to my Jeep in the bitter cold, feeling so alive!!!!!!!!!

  3. My daughter and myself had a great time. My 11 year old daughter plays the sax and was amazed by the performance of Miguel and the band.

  4. Thanks for bringing such an amazing and gifted musician to us. Miguel Zenon is one of a kind and the group of musicians that were with him are outstanding. I went in the theater under the wildest cold weather we have had this winter and came out of the concert as warm as in a summer night. Very impressed with his composition, his mastering the sax, his movement directing the orchestra and his moving out to the side to let the musicians take center. Thanks again for a wonderful evening!

  5. Miguel Zenon and the entourage of magnificent musicians gracing the FAC stage last
evening were among the most creative and accomplished Jazz musicians I
have ever experienced. The creativity of musical score, finesse and caliber of
each artist was masterfully orchestrated with Miguel’s truly remarkable leadership. There were moments of contemplation, cultural learning & sheer auditory bliss.
When the artist loves the work, we are inspired toward that possibility!
Thank you for a unique evening that will resonate for quite some time.

  6. The Miguel Zenon Identities are Changeable Big Band was pure magic !!
The entire band played from their heart and soul as if the music were just for that audience that night. Great soloing and playing !!
