Global Socrates is now ESG Manager on Campus

The database once known as Global Socrates is now a new platform called ESG Manager on Campus. This resource provides a number of tools for measuring corporate ecological impact and analysis of environmental, social and governance factors. You can search by country, ticker symbol or industry and limit abortion, cluster bombs, tobacco, nuclear power and other screens.

Grzimek’s Animal Life Encyclopedia is an authoritative source of fascinating details about all kinds of animals, including birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, mammals, etc. Organized by taxonomic hierarchy, the online source is readily searched by keyword or browsed. Each entry covers scientific and common name, physical characteristics, reproductive biology, behavior, feeding ecology and diet, and much more. Color photographs and charts complete the descriptive pictures.

Explore Sustainability Watch

Within the past several months the UMass Amherst Libraries have added the Sustainability Watch database from Ebsco. You can browse or search for over 220 summaries of topics from airline emissions to climate change policy in Australia, carbon trading, green cleaning products, light rail, and smart metering. Each summary provides a basic overview of related issues and has a list of references. You can focus your search by geography, NAICS code, ticker symbol, publication date and more.

Explore Inspec for Electrical Engineering Literature

Produced by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Inspec is available on the Ebscohost platform. You can search by keyword, subject, author, or title and limit by date, publication type, language and more. From the indexing and abstracts you can link to full-text where available through UMLinks.

Social Sciences Abstracts is a good starting place to identify scholarly literature in the fields of criminal justice, economics, education, political science, sociology, cultural studies, and gender and sexuality studies. It provides indexing and abstracts for over 625 English language journals published in the United States since 1983. The UMass Amherst Libraries subscription to Social Sciences Abstracts is on the Ebscohost platform. Full-text from the article abstracts can be obtained through the UMLinks menu.

The Libraries recently added a subscription to GREENR, a compilation of journal articles, encyclopedia entries, web sites and case studies on the environment, energy and natural resources. You can browse by topic or geography, or search by keyword, author, person, company, etc. GREENR includes audio and video clips, as well as newswires and blog entries and you can identify these through the Advanced Search.
