The Libraries purchased British Periodicals, digitized collections of over 450 British periodicals published between the 17th and early 20th century covering literature, history, science, fine arts and social sciences. These collections are available on the ProQuest platform, and you can search by keyword; author; publication title, subject or editor; place of publication (including Belfast, Calcutta, Glasgow and New York, among others); document type (e.g. advertisement, obituary, poem, recipe) and more.

African Newspapers from the World Newspaper Archive includes colonial newspapers in European and African languages published in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. You can search by full-text or title, and limit by date, language, place of publication and newspaper title.

The Libraries have purchased the Historical Hartford Courant (1764-1988) from ProQuest. Each year we’ll purchase an additional year of coverage. The Courant is Connecticut’s paper of record and provides historical context for the Pioneer Valley as well.

The Libraries have expanded its Accessible Archives subscription to include American County Histories, Civil War documents, newspapers such as Godey’s Lady’s Book, The Lily, The Pennsylvania Gazette, and other texts such as Twelve Years a Slave. Seventeenth-Eighteenth Century Burney Collection Newspapers are a new addition to the Libraries’ online resources. Coverage includes English newspapers, broadsides, addresses, proclamations and pamphlets published between 1620’s and 1790’s. You can browse publications by location or search by document or publication title, publication date, full-text keyword and add limits for publication section, images and more.

The Libraries now have a trial for World News Connection, a compilation of current international news from foreign sources translated into English by the U.S. Department of Commerce National Technical Information Service.
