MarketLine – A New Source for Market Data, Reports

MarketLine present business data for companies, industries and geographic areas, all of which you can browse. You can also search for these and case studies, company news and financial deals. Industry reports include market outlook, data and segmentation; a “five forces analysis” of buyer power, supplier power, new entrants, substitution threats and rivalry; and leading companies. Company reports address the business overview; history; key officer biographies; locations and subsidiaries; SOT analysis; competitors; and major products and services.

New Oxford Handbooks, Business and Management Collection

The Libraries have purchased 5 new titles in the Oxford Handbooks Online Business and Management collection. You may find them in the UMass Amherst library catalog or through the collection site. The titles are:

Import Genius: What’s Shipped In

The new database Import Genius collects logs of shipping containers moving around the world. You can search by product, importer, shipper, vessel, container number, port, date, etc. and see all the parties involved in trade. You can create maps of the movements of products by consignee and shipper and export  or email results of your searches.

Explore Product Launch Analytics

Product Launch Analytics provides detailed, searchable data on many consumer products, from food, beverages, personal care, household, pet care and more. Find product ingredients, nutritional value, product innovation, packaging, countries where available and other details. You can search or browse, and run comparative analysis reports.

Mergent Horizon and Mergent Intellect on Trial

Mergent Horizon is another source of financials for public companies actively traded on AMEX, NYSE, and NASDAQ. Companies are put in hierarchies of industries, competitors, suppliers, partners, customers and more. You can search by ticker symbol or company name or browse by industry sector. A calendar displays company stock events. You can find detailed financial analysis and generate reports of sectors, portfolios, competitors by product or merger and acquisition scenarios.

Mergent Intellect is a searchable directory of global private and public companies, employers, executives, and personal and business residences. You can search by company type, location type, name or ticker symbol.

Freedonia Focus Collection offers over 600 research reports covering 18 industries in the United States and international markets. You can browse by industry or by date published, or search by title, date, global region and NAICS code. Reports cover market size, historical and forecasted demand by product and markets, and profiles of the market leading companies.

To find scholarly articles, conference proceedings, trade publications, start up plans and other literature that covers the theoretical and practical aspects of starting and developing a new business, ProQuest Entrepreneurship is an excellent place to start. Coverage includes a wide range of subjects from angel investors to franchisees, home businesses, entrepreneurial finance and business incubators. You can search broadly or limit by date, NAICS code, company, location, source type, market segment and more.

Trial for Data-Planet

The Libraries now have a trial for Data-Planet, a searchable collection of 90+ billion, officially sourced data sets covering 16 subject areas. Statistical data from organizations such as United Nations Economic Commission of Europe, international stock exchanges, the International Monetary Fund, and many U.S. Government organizations is standardized and organized for discovery by subject, date, geography, source organization, title and more. Subjects include food & agriculture, housing & construction, prices, consumption & cost of living, energy resources & industries, and others. You can view the data sets by geographical mapping, ranking,  and time series. The data can be viewed, downloaded or printed. Each data set has a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
