The Libraries now have trial access to Atlanta Daily World (1931-2003); Los Angeles Sentinel (1934-2005); New York Amsterdam News (1922-1993); Pittsburgh Courier (1911-2002). These newspapers can be searched together as Historical Black Newspapers.

The Libraries have an existing subscription to the Chicago Defender, also classified as a historical black newspaper, through its Black Studies Center database.

For more information or to provide feedback, contact Jim Kelly, 413-545-3981. This trial will continue until July 31st, 2008.

New Chemistry Database Trials: Gmelin and Patent Chemistry

The UMass Amherst Libraries have obtained trial access to the Gmelin and Patent Chemistry databases, to complement our existing subscription to Beilstein. All three databases are available on the Crossfire platform via the Crossfire Commander Client.

Crossfire Gmelin is a searchable source of structures and properties in inorganic and organometallic chemistry, including 2 million reactions and 2.5 million compounds.

Patent Chemistry Database is a searchable index of chemical reactions, substances and substance related information from organic chemistry and life sciences publications (World, U.S. and European) since 1976, including 4 million reactions and 5 million compounds.

For information on connecting to these trial databases, please contact Paulina Borrego, Chemistry Liaison Librarian. The trial is available until August 20th, 2008.
