An example of a scary-compelling-fascinating-unsettling conversation one of my students came across in her internet wanderings: http://andiamnotlying.com/2010/types-of-bitches/.
It is a list of 90 “types of bitches” created by what is assumed to be a young woman (3rd grade, some speculation in the comments of 8th grade) in the DC area. The list itself expresses all kinds of raced, sexed, gendered, and classed identities and is both pretty haunting, particularly in terms of how it is being framed by the blog that is hosting it and the comments that follow.
I am not entirely sure how to bring this into my classroom, but it certainly is an excellent example of how social values (both hegemonic/mainstream and not) are embodied in text.
