Nominations Overview
The purpose of getting oneself nominated as a candidate for a specific office, is to reserve a place on the ballot. No individual, who is not validated as a candidate through the nominations process, shall be listed on the ballot. When nominations shall have closed, the Elections Commission shall review all nomination papers and shall confirm or deny, upon a majority vote of its membership in attendance at a scheduled meeting, the validity thereof.
Nominations Procedure
Nominations shall begin and end in accordance with the schedule posted in the “Running for Office” section of this website. For nomination papers to be considered valid, they must be taken out and returned within this time frame.
All persons, upon taking out nomination papers, shall be issued a certified copy of the Constitution of the SGA and the By-laws of the SGA, and shall, upon returning said nomination papers sign a document attesting that s/he shall have read, understood and agreed to abide by the Constitution of the SGA, the General By-laws and specifically Title VIII(Elections) of the By-laws of the SGA.
All persons, upon returning nomination papers shall submit a campaign workers list which shall include the name, student identification number and telephone number of all persons actively campaigning for the candidate.
If the Elections Commission shall have voted to deny the validity of a set of nomination papers, the Elections Commission shall inform the nominee within twenty-four (24) hours following the vote, of its decision and its justification.
SGA Presidential Nominations
If an SGA member shall take out nomination papers for the office of SGA President, the number of nomination signatures required for his/her nomination papers to be validated shall be two-hundred and fifty (250). These signatures must be from only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students.
NOTE: Only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students shall be eligible to take out nomination papers for the office of SGA President.
University Student Trustee Nominations
If a Graduate or Undergraduate shall take out nomination papers for the office of University Student Trustee, the number of nomination signatures required for his/her nomination papers to be validated shall be two-hundred and fifty (250). These signatures must be from only full-time graduate or undergraduate fee-paying students.
NOTE: Only full-time, graduate or undergraduate, fee-paying students shall be eligible to take out nomination papers for the office of University Student Trustee.
Area Government Nominations
If an SGA member shall take out nomination papers for the office of Area Government Officer, the number of nomination signatures required for his/her nomination papers to be validated shall be one-hundred (100). These signatures must be from only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students who reside in the same area in which the SGA member is seeking office. The Area Governments are Southwest (SWAG), Northeast (NEAG), Sylvan (SAG), North (NAG), Orchard Hill (OHAG), Central (CAG) and Commuter.
NOTE: Only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students who reside in or are planning to reside in a given area shall be eligible to take out nomination papers for the office of Area Government Officer in that area.
Senate Nominations
If an SGA member shall take out nomination papers for the office of Senator, the number of nomination signatures required for his/her nomination papers to be validated shall be twenty-five (25). These signatures must be from only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students who reside in the same area in which the SGA member is seeking office.
NOTE: Only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students who reside in or are planning to reside in a given area shall be eligible to take out nomination papers for the office of Senator in that area.
NOTE: Only full-time, undergraduate, fee-paying students who reside in or are planning to reside in a given area shall be eligible to take out nomination papers for the office of House Council Officer in that cluster.
