Three interesting developments in library catalog land over the past week or so…
1. The University of Washington Libraries have just gone live with WorldCat Local. From the OCLC Newsletter: “Through a locally branded interface, the service provides libraries the ability to search the entire WorldCat database and present results beginning with items most accessible to the user. WorldCat Local interoperates with locally maintained services like circulation, resource sharing and resolution to full text to create a seamless experience for the end user.” Read about it, or try it out. 2. McMaster University has launched their new Endeca-powered library catalogue (that’s right, catalogue). Browse to your heart’s content, narrow your search using the facets clearly laid out in the left-hand toolbar…format, subject, location…swoon. OPAC aficonados keeping score at home may recall that the North Carolina State University Libraries launched their own lovely Endeca-powered catalog (that’s right, catalog) back in January 2006. 3. The Danbury Library in Danbury, CT is the first to go live with LibraryThing for Libraries. If you pull up a record from their catalog, you will find recommendations, tags, user reviews & ratings, and related works–all powered by LibraryThing. Read much more about this exciting development on the Thingology Blog (and congratulations, Kate!).
