Anthropologist, Ruth Benedict, wrote, “The purpose of anthropology is to make the world safe for human differences.” As the student population in U.S. schools becomes increasingly diverse, I believe that finding ways to understand and negotiate human differences is at the heart of addressing many of our most intractable educational challenges. My work focuses on making schools safer places for human differences through ethnographic research and teacher education.
