July 15th, 2010 by CEPA

The campus climate core team conducts research of policy changes that foster a strong political and social representation of underrepresented communities on campus.  This team of research advocates works to protect and improve resources of underrepresented students at the university.  In particular, the team serves to utilize its research to contextualize phenomena on its campus.  The team works with various RSOs, student initiatives, campus communities, faculty and administrators to draft policy change. Events and other activities have included:

Bringing together diverse campus groups to discuss problems with the campus climate for underrepresented groups focusing on solutions

Collaborating with the ALANA program office to research and create a timeline documenting how UMass Student Success Centers changed over time

Researching and advocating for changes to the Student Code of Conduct for more inclusivity of campus members to include protection of those with different gender expression

Collaborating with the Office of Progams for ALANA students to promote political and legal literacy amongst students
