Please note that there is a Registered Student Organization Officer Orientation (RSOOO) session on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 7-10pm and Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 7-10pm in the Campus Center basement. Sign in begins in the Campus Center basement at 6pm. RSOOO is required for RSO officers who need signature responsibility and required for all new RSO officers (all presidents, vice presidents, treasurers and secretaries (or equivalent positions) must attend).
This training will provide you with the basic info that you need to successfully manage your RSO. You will take part in special break out sessions where you can learn more about fundraising, running effective and efficient meetings, and planning dynamic events.
RSO meetings in the Campus Center are limited to one a week because of the large demand for meeting space. They can be booked up to one month in advance.
You can also use academic classrooms and auditoriums for meetings. In this case the officer with signature responsibility should make an appointment to meet with Melinda in the Resource Center to request the space.
BUT REMEMBER: when planning events you meet with your advisor first, then with Melinda. Space for events can’t be requested on-line.
We want to make the planning for RSO events smoother so we ‘ve added a new step to the event planning process.
To register your event you will meet with your CSD advisor to discuss the feasibility of your plans. Together you and your advisor will review the goals of the event, create a preliminary budget and discuss timelines. After doing this, the rest of the planning should be a lot easier.
You won’t meet with Melinda, our Scheduling Coordinator, until after this “pre-event advisor meeting.” So make an appointment with your advisor as soon as you start thinking about planning an event and follow it with an appointment with Melinda.
We also want to help your treasurers stay informed, so the treasurer must attend the pre-event advising meeting, as well as the event coordinator.
Clear your calendars for the Activities Expo on September 3, 4-7 pm. We’ve been promoting it at the New Students Orientation all summer and they are anxious to meet the students in the RSOs and talk to you about joining. If you registered you should have already heard the details. If you haven’t registered but want to participate, come to the library deck at 4:00 and we’ll try to fit you in.
In recognition of the outstanding contributions of our students to the greater UMass Amherst community, The Center for Student Development cordially invites you to attend the 2nd Annual Student Life Awards Ceremony

We’ve had a semester to try our new system of having RSOs meet with our event consultants (ECOs) to plan your smaller events. Now we’re ready to refine the system and have decided it will work best for everyone if we have you make an appointment. So when you get an e-mail that you should see an ECO for your event, you still get to choose the day and time convenient for you, but now you also get to choose the ECO and you’ll be assured someone is available and ready for you.
