to successfully manage your RSO. In addition, there will be special break out
sessions where you can learn more about fundraising, running effective and
efficient meetings, and planning dynamic events.

RSOOO will be on Monday, December 15th.
Sign-in is between 6pm and 7pm.
Training will run approximately 2 and a half hours.

Please sign up in advance at http://www.umass.edu/csd/rso/offorientation/ . Each
individual officer attending must fill out a separate registration form on-line.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at (413)545-3600 or

Scheduling Meeting Rooms

September 29th, 2008 by Phee

 cat meeting

You don’t need to meet with Melinda to schedule space for a meeting in the Campus Center.  They can be scheduled by the person with signature responsibility in person in the Campus Center Events Office, 819 Campus Center, or on-line.

RSO meetings in the Campus Center are limited to one a week because of the large demand for meeting space.  They can be booked up to one month in advance.

You can also use academic classrooms and auditoriums for meetings.  In this case the officer with signature responsibility should make an appointment to meet with Melinda in the Resource Center to request the space.

BUT REMEMBER:  when planning events you meet with your advisor first, then with Melinda.  Space for events can’t be requested on-line.

September 4th, 2008 by Phee

Have you activated your group yet?  Please go to http://www.umass.edu/csd/rso/requirements/.

Remember, every RSO, sorority and fraternity must do all four of these things to be active:

  • Information sheet – online form
  • Anti-hazing compliance form
  • membership list
  • return your SR cards

All these things are due by September 30.

And by the way, 658 of you attended RSOOO!  Congratulations

New RSO Advisor assignments

August 29th, 2008 by Phee

We’ve had some staff changes and that means some RSOs are getting a new advisor. Shaun Jamieson has moved on to a new position in another area (we wish him well) and Sara Littlecrow-Russell has joined the advising staff. We’ve shuffled the advisor assignments a bit as well so make sure to check the list to see if your group has a new advisor.

New Event Planning Procedures

August 15th, 2008 by Phee

We want to make the planning for RSO events smoother so we ‘ve added a new step to the event planning process.

To register your event you will meet with your CSD advisor to discuss the feasibility of your plans. Together you and your advisor will review the goals of the event, create a preliminary budget and discuss timelines. After doing this, the rest of the planning should be a lot easier.

You won’t meet with Melinda, our Scheduling Coordinator, until after this “pre-event advisor meeting.” So make an appointment with your advisor as soon as you start thinking about planning an event and follow it with an appointment with Melinda.

We also want to help your treasurers stay informed, so the treasurer must attend the pre-event advising meeting, as well as the event coordinator.

Sometimes change is good.
