All of the software that will be needed for this course is installed in our classroom (computer lab Holdsworth 302) as well as on most of the OIT computers (e.g. in the library).
If you have a laptop that you can bring to class, or would like to have a copy of the software for yourself, you can download and install free copies of the CAD software we’ll be using:
AutoCAD:
Go to students.autodesk.com and register there using your UMASS.EDU email address. You can then download a free 3-year educational license of the latest version of AutoCAD. (Educational licenses are full-working versions, but any printouts/plots contain the Autodesk Education watermark.)
The version installed in our Holdsworth 302 lab is AutoCAD 2011.
The version installed in OIT computer labs is also AutoCAD 2011.
AutoCAD 2012 is available for download, but we will use AutoCAD 2011 as that is the version that OIT supports at this time. If you want to install and use AutoCAD 2012 on your personal laptop or desktop, you are welcome to do so. The user interface and some functional features may be slightly different than the 2011 version.
AutoCAD 2011 is also available for Mac on the Autodesk Education site.
SketchUP:
Go to sketchup.google.com and download the free version of SketchUp.
The version installed in our lab is 7.1 (Windows). Version 8 is available for Macs.
