?? Butô

Butô (also spelled ‘butoh’) is an art form of contrasts, by turns shocking and achingly serene. It started with the debut performance of Hijikata Tatsumi in May 1959, but has now expanded into an international art form addressing some of the most pressing issues of the world today. Artists are increasingly finding in butô the material to address gender fluidity, indigenous movements, and ecological crises.
