I am an Assistant Professor of Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. My main line of research deals with intonational development – how do children acquire intonational forms and their meanings?  I am also interested in other cues to belief states that might play a role in a child’s intonational development, for example facial gesture and cognitive abilities like Theory of Mind.

To date, my research projects have focused on Spanish (Puerto Rican, Peninsular), Catalan (Central, Majorcan), Portuguese (Brazilian) and English (American).
